life on the farm
Tumblehome Farm inhabits 5 acres of what was originally the Ostby Farm on Hornby Island. Primarily used as grazing land for sheep, it was abandoned as farmland in the early 1940's (around the start of WWII). At that time you could see the water clear down from Big Tree (at least 1 km away). Over the years the vegetation overgrew the grasslands. In October 2014, we reclaimed about 3 acres and built our house. Just over 2 acres remains as woodlot. In July 2015 we moved onto the property.
We are now in the process of slowly landscaping and developing the gardens, orchards, and pasture.
We have big plans for our little homestead, where we will be learning about regenerative farming, playing some music, and whatever else comes along.
Hope to see you soon!
